Product Review: 5.11 Tactical Pants
And now for something completely different…
For the last couple years, I’ve started wearing 5.11 Tactical pants almost exclusively (except when I am wearing sweat pants).
These are “semi-dressy” cargo pants (with lots of interesting pocketses!) that are marketed towards off-duty policemen, firefighters, FBI agents, and other people with active, non-sedentary careers and who need to look well-groomed and presentable, even after a vigorous rough-and-tumble.
What makes these pants special is their combination of rugged durability and comfort. The fabric is a thick poly/cotton “ripstop” blend that will survive some fairly strenuous encounters. And every seam is triple-stitched, with extra reinforcement where it is needed.
This is important for someone like me who has lived long enough to have worn out many of my favorite outfits. I really like the idea of settling on something that will last a long time. And although I doubt that I will get into too many firefights or car chases, it’s always best to be prepared, right? Just like those programmers who always wear hiking boots to work, just in case a mountain should spring up in the middle of the corridor :)
I generally wear black jeans in the Taclite Pro line, which in my opinion is a great foundation for a “No-Nonsense-Nerd” or “Utili-Goth” fashion look.
